Madacy was founded in the mid-1980s as a record label only. Around 1995, Madacy bought Trans-Atlantic Video and began re-releasing their library of films, which were mostly from the 1940s and 1950s.
Madacy is still operating in the music industry, and also releases DVDs of public domain films from the Trans-Atlantic library.
